Kunstgalerie Parkhotel de Wiemsel

In a historic country house on the edge of our hotel park, we offer our guests a small exclusive and very diverse collection of contemporary art from all over the world, from paintings to graphics to sculptures, which they can enjoy in a private atmosphere. It is an excerpt from the art collection of the hotel owner, which he has collected in over 50 years on business trips all over the world and now presents to the public in his hometown in Lüneburg as "Kunstsammlung Henning J. Claassen" in its own art museum.

From 01 September 2023, the collection will offer you the new art highlights of the 2024 season. In addition to the hyperrealistic sculpture "Fullness of Emptiness" by Australian Sam Jinks, the gallery offers a broad spectrum of works by well-known and less well-known international artists such as Christo, Feng, Giacometti, Ramos, Szczesny, Vasarely, Warhol and many others. 

As a special service we have also created a new gallery guide for our guests, so you may comfortably enjoy the art work have the information on the artists on hand. You can buy your personal gallery guide at the reception for 3,- Euro. Here you will find a small excerpt.

The Collector

Henning J. Claassen (HJC) was born in 1944 in Lüneburg/D, the son of a family of bakers who have been living here for four generations. He completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and then studied Economics and Psychology in Los Angeles/USA. After returning from the USA, he went into business for himself at the age of 27 and founded a number of successful companies over the years. In addition to his professional career, HJC became interested in contemporary art at an early age and began collecting paintings and sculptures of the 20th and 21st centuries. His passion for travelling and art led him and his wife to Ootmarsum a few years ago. Her then favourite hotel "De Wiemsel" unfortunately went insolvent in 2013. The enthusiasm for the place and the hotel was so big that HJC decided to buy the hotel, completely renovated it in 2015 and reopened it. And so with the "Kunstgalerie Parkhotel de Wiemsel" the circle for the passion for art in a very special place comes full circle.

In the evening from 5:30 p.m. the art gallery opens exclusively for you with a glass of champagne and a delicious Amuse Guele for 29.00 € per person. Of course you can also use the art gallery for festive occasions in an extraordinary setting with friends or business partners. For that special moment that remains unforgettable.
